Two questions and you'll know which hog to reserve — and whether your freezer can take it. For reference, the average American eats roughly 50 lb of pork a year.

What you get
Every part of the hog has a job.
Your hog comes back already cut, wrapped, labeled, and frozen. Tap any cut to see what it yields and how to cook it.
Pork chops+
Bone-in, cut to whatever thickness you ask for, from the loin. Cook it: hot pan, butter, and pull it at 140°F. A well-finished chop doesn't need a brine.
Roasts+
Butt and picnic roasts from the shoulder, plus fresh or cured ham. Cook it: low oven, eight hours, no fuss — pulled pork, carnitas, and the Sunday roast.
Ribs+
Baby backs off the loin, spare ribs off the belly, country-style ribs from the shoulder. Cook it: low and slow, wrapped, then finished over heat.
Ground pork+
Packed in 1 lb packages from the trim. Cook it: the most useful thing in the freezer — meatballs, chili, dumplings, or stretched into a pot of sauce.
Bacon+
The belly, cured and sliced — or left as fresh side pork. Cook it: thick-cut into a cold pan, brought up slow. The fat on these hogs is worth saving in a jar.
Sausage+
Bulk or links, in mild, spicy, Italian, or chorizo. Cook it: breakfast patties, or squeezed out of the casing as the base for almost any braise.

How they're raised
Outdoors, on Montana grain, for as long as it takes.
No barn-only lots, no mystery feed, no rushing them to weight. These hogs finish bigger than store pork, which is why the fat cover is thicker and the chops don't dry out.

Processing happens at Superior Meats under Montana state inspection. Every package is inspected, labeled, sealed, and frozen — sold in full compliance with Montana meat-sale requirements. Nothing leaves the state.

The farmer

“You'll get me on the phone, and you'll get me at your door with the boxes.”
I raise these hogs myself, outside Missoula, while finishing school at the University of Montana. I learned the work on other people's operations before I started my own, and this is the first one that's mine. I stand behind every pound of it.

Questions Max gets every week.
How much does a half hog cost?+
A half hog is $750 and yields roughly 75–100 lb of finished pork. A whole is $1,450 and yields roughly 150–200 lb. Both include free delivery within about 60 miles of Missoula.
How much freezer space do I need?+
A half needs about 3–4 cubic feet, a whole 5–7. A standard chest freezer swallows a half without complaint. For a whole, plan on a big chest freezer or two units — these are large finished hogs.
What cuts do I actually get?+
Chops, roasts, ribs, ground pork, bacon, and sausage — a full spread, not one cut repeated. You set the details on the cut sheet, or leave them to Max.
Is the meat inspected?+
Yes — Montana state inspection at Superior Meats. Every package is inspected, labeled, vacuum-sealed, and frozen, and sold in full compliance with Montana meat-sale requirements.
When can I get it?+
Hogs are sold by the batch. Get your name on the list and Max will text you as soon as the next one is set — you'll hear before it's listed anywhere else. Once a batch is processed, delivery is usually within a few days of your order being confirmed.
How do I pay?+
Cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or check. Nothing is due to hold your spot on the list; the balance is settled when the boxes come off the truck.
Do you deliver?+
Yes — 36 towns qualify for free delivery, from East Missoula and Lolo out to Superior, Seeley Lake, and Darby. Use the town checker in the Delivery section to see if yours is one of them. Not sure? Text Max and ask — he'll tell you straight.
